My decision to join the Katy VFW Post 9182 Auxiliary was made because I wanted to be a part of such a selfless and accomplished organization that makes an everyday impact to our Veterans and our community.
“We also have nearly 465,000 members in more than 4,000 Auxiliaries nationwide who volunteer millions of hours and fundraise millions of dollars for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service personnel and their families. Through our National Programs, we assist the VFW pass or block legislation that impacts veterans and their families, provide nearly a million volunteer hours in the VA medical system, conduct patriotic programs with thousands of students and offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships for our nation’s youth.” More Information Found Here: VFW Auxiliary Page.
To be a member of the Auxiliary, you must have a relative who has served in overseas combat. For me, this was also a way to honor my dad, a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Vietnam. During his service with the 1st Aviation Brigade, 145th Battalion and 334th Attack Helicopter Company, my father earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Army Commendation Medal, one with Oak Leaf Cluster, 1 O/S Bar, and a Good Conduct Medal. His rank was listed as a Spec 5, or SP5 at the time of his discharge. For my dad and for others who have served and sacrificed, we thank you.
